The need for EV Lithium Ion battery circularity

– Rare earth elements are a particularly important group of critical minerals. In 2020, China controlled nearly 60% of REE production
– The U.S. is 100% reliant on imports for 14 critical minerals and more than 75% reliant on imports for another 10. These materials are key to industrial and commercial processes as well as national defense.
– Mining is a destructive process that disrupts the environment and widely disperses waste. Beyond health impacts, mining can also negatively impact human rights.
– Recycling critical materials results in much lower human health and environmental impacts compared to mining virgin material.
